Historic high for 12th month in a row - state debt reaches record USD 197 billion

The total state (direct and guaranteed) debt of Ukraine in October increased by 1.5%, or USD 2.99 billion, to USD 197.19 billion compared to the previous month.

This is stated in the data of the Ministry of Finance, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The state and state-guaranteed debt at the end of October amounted to UAH 8,276.21 billion, or USD 197.19 billion, against UAH 8,024.14 billion, or USD 194.21 billion, a month earlier.

The total amount of direct state debt as of the reporting date amounted to UAH 7,990.01 billion (USD 190.37 billion), compared to UAH 7,732.33 billion (USD 187.14 billion) a month earlier.

At the same time, direct external debt increased from USD 141.65 billion to USD 145.12 billion over the month.

Direct domestic debt increased in hryvnia equivalent from UAH 1,879.86 billion to UAH 1,899.14 billion (in dollar equivalent, it decreased from USD 45.50 billion to USD 45.25 billion).

The state-guaranteed debt at the end of the reporting month amounted to UAH 286.19 billion, or USD 6.82 billion.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2024, Ukraine's total state (direct and guaranteed) debt increased by 14.27%, or USD 20.74 billion, to USD 166.06 billion.

In 2023, Ukraine's total state (direct and guaranteed) debt increased by 30.4%, or by USD 33.87 billion, to a record USD 145.32 billion.

In 2022, the total state debt increased by USD 13.39 billion, or 13.66%, to USD 111.34 billion.

In 2021, the total state debt increased by 8.52%, or USD 7.69 billion, to USD 97.95 billion.

In 2020, the total state debt increased by 6.9% from USD 84.4 billion to USD 90.3 billion.
