Lithuanian Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Transport Kęstutis Budrys and Juras Taminskas have asked the European Commission (EC) to help return trucks stuck in Belarus and to impose additional sanctions over smuggled balloons
It was reported by LRT.
The letter asks "to prepare and present a coherent EU action plan to help European carriers in Belarus, as well as to address the security problem on the border of Lithuania and Belarus, which is created by the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, including smuggled balloons."
The European Commissioners for Foreign Affairs are also asked "to demand at the EU level the full and unconditional release of European carriers and their property illegally detained on the Belarusian side."
The EC is also asked to help initiate new sanctions against Belarus proposed by Lithuania, which, among other things, will be imposed on Minsk officials responsible for the flights of smuggled balloons.
BNS wrote that Lithuanian trucks were stuck in Belarus when Lithuania decided to close the border with this country, and Belarus began not to let the trucks leave the country.
Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė said at the end of this week that about 280 trucks were stuck in Belarus, and Linava claims that the number of Lithuanian vehicles remains about 4,000, including 1,250 trucks.
We will remind, earlier Belarus threatened with measures against Lithuanian trucks that remained in the country after the closure of the checkpoints by Lithuania.
