Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has confirmed after talks in moscow that russia considers the Hungarian capital, Budapest, as the main venue for a possible "peace summit." He said this during a Facebook broadcast.
Szijjártó said that during the meeting in the kremlin, Viktor Orbán once again emphasized Hungary's position that it "stands on the side of peace" and considers peace its main interest.
"Hungary has already paid a very high price for this war, which we have nothing to do with, so we want this war to end as soon as possible. Putin has assured us that if there is a 'peace summit', it will undoubtedly take place in Budapest," the Hungarian foreign minister said.
He also said that the talks were successful for Hungary in the energy sector: putin confirmed to Orbán russia's readiness to fulfill its contractual obligations and ensure the supply of natural gas and oil in the agreed volumes.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Orbán and Szijjártó flew to moscow to meet with putin and offered Budapest for war talks.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán spoke out against further increase in financial aid to Ukraine from the EU, comparing it to "giving an alcoholic another box of vodka."
