On Friday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met with vladimir putin in moscow. During the talks, Orbán once again offered Budapest as a possible venue for peace talks on russia's war against Ukraine. This is reported by the russian service of the BBC.
The Hungarian delegation, which included, among others, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, arrived in the kremlin today for talks with vladimir putin. The russian side was represented at the meeting by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov and Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán noted that this was his fourteenth meeting with putin as head of government, and one of the main topics was "peaceful efforts" to end the war in Ukraine.
"Ukraine is Hungary's neighbor, so Hungary is fully experiencing the impact of the Ukrainian conflict (meaning the Russian war against Ukraine - ed.) on itself. In particular, we are suffering significant economic losses. Hungary is interested in peace, and we sincerely hope that the recently unveiled peace initiatives will eventually lead to a result," Orbán said.
According to his statement, Hungary is ready to act as a platform for peace talks and make efforts to successfully complete the process. Putin thanked Orbán, but clarified that the initiative to hold talks in Budapest belongs to US President Donald Trump.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán opposed further increase in financial assistance to Ukraine from the EU, comparing it to "giving an alcoholic another box of vodka".
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has reacted sharply to the attack by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who publicly criticized the Ukrainian authorities on social network X for corruption scandals in the energy sector.
