Zelenskyy agrees with President of Philippines to open embassy in Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed with the President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to open an embassy of the Philippines in Ukraine. This is announced in a statement from the Office of the President, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to the statement, in a telephone conversation, Zelenskyy expressed condolences to the President of the Philippines in connection with the loss of life and destruction caused by typhoons.

Zelenskyy informed his interlocutor about the joint work with the United States of America and other partners on steps to establish a guaranteed peace and thanked him for the support for peace efforts, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and the clear position of the Philippines.

The leaders discussed areas of cooperation: food security, agriculture and digitalization. It is noted that the Philippines is also interested in the experience and technologies that Ukraine has.

The heads of state agreed that the teams will work on all issues in the near future.

"In addition, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the Embassy of Ukraine has been operating in Manila for almost a year, and proposed opening the Embassy of the Philippines in our country. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. supported this proposal," the report says.

Ukraine opened an embassy in the Philippines in 2024.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in July 2022, it became known that the Philippine authorities refused to purchase Mi-17 military transport helicopters from russia due to fears of possible US sanctions; the canceled deal was estimated at a quarter of a billion dollars.
