US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to review the status of every Afghan citizen who was admitted to the United States during the administration of his predecessor, Joe Biden. This is reported by CBS News.
On the afternoon of November 26, a gun attack occurred in Washington, as a result of which two US National Guard soldiers were injured. The incident occurred just a few blocks from the White House. The shooter was identified as 29-year-old Afghan citizen Rahmanullah Lakanwal. It is noted that he entered the United States in September 2021, that is, a month after the completion of the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.
"We are not going to tolerate this kind of law and order abuse by people who have no place in our country. Now we must review every foreighner who entered from Afghanistan under Biden. And we must take all necessary steps to ensure the removal of any foreighner from any country who does not belong in our country and is not of benefit to our country," Trump said.
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Joseph Edlow has directed agency officials to investigate refugee cases that entered the country between January 20, 2021, and February 20, 2025. As part of this order, officials may conduct re-interviews with these individuals.
According to federal statistics, about 233,000 refugees arrived in the United States during that period (February 2021 to January 2025).
Earlier, US President Donald Trump personally spoke out about the attack on National Guard soldiers.
According to Trump, the person who opened fire on two guardsmen, seriously wounding both of them (they were taken to different hospitals in critical condition), himself received serious injuries.
"The animal that shot two National Guard soldiers, both of whom were seriously injured and are now in two different hospitals, is also seriously injured, but despite this, he will pay a very high price," Trump said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, two National Guardsmen were killed in a shooting near the White House, the attacker was detained.
