The Cabinet of Ministers has appointed Bohdana Laiuk as Deputy Minister of Culture, she will be responsible for state policy in the field of book publishing and language policy. Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna announced this on Facebook, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"Bohdana will be responsible for the formation and implementation of state policy in the field of book publishing, reading, the visibility of Ukrainian literature abroad, as well as language policy," Berezhna said.
Her future projects at the Ministry of Culture include policies and strategies for the development of the book sector, cooperation with the Ukrainian Book Institute, development of a unified strategy for book festivals, improvement of conditions for eBooks and implementation of a mechanism for co-financing book purchases for libraries with local budgets, as well as updating the terms of preferential leases for bookstores and working on sanctions against russian publishers.
Laiuk will also be responsible for updating Ukrainian fonts and introducing unified legal terminology in legislation.
"Another important area of work for the Ministry of Culture is the Ukrainian language. Bohdana will continue to work in this area, oversee strategic topics of language policy, the issue of updating the translation of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages and the implementation of the adopted draft law," Berezhna said.
Berezhna said that Laiuk has a master's degree in law from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, she has many years of experience in the field of culture and media as a curator of cultural projects, journalist, and editor.
In 2020-2025, she worked at The Ukrainians Media as an editor, and in 2020 was responsible for launching the first state program to support translations of Ukrainian literature into foreign languages.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in October, the Verkhovna Rada appointed acting Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna as Vice Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture.
