The Cabinet of Ministers has authorized border and customs control directly in train cars while traveling without long stops at the border. Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced this on her Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"We are making international travel more convenient for Ukrainians. Today we have made a decision that will allow border and customs control directly in the train cars - without long stops at the border and without unnecessary stress for passengers," she said.
Svyrydenko noted that this format is already working in some Intercity+ trains in the Polish direction, where customs and border guards are starting to control passengers while traveling on the approach to the border.
"Now we plan to extend this practice gradually to sleeping cars on night international routes," she said.
First, this mode will be launched in trains on the Polish direction: Kyiv-Przemyśl and Kyiv-Chełm. The Prime Minister noted that more than 130,000 Ukrainians travel on these trains every month.
"We expect to launch accelerated control in certain trains in January, and then we will scale it to other trains on these routes," Svyrydenko said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 12, the European Union launched a new biometric entry/exit control system - EES (Entry/Exit System), it automatically records the entries and exits of third-country nationals, including Ukrainians, traveling to the Schengen area for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
