US President Donald Trump said that the front line in Ukraine is changing not in favor of Kyiv, and therefore the territories mentioned in the initial "concept" of a peaceful settlement may be seized by russia in the coming months.
During his conversation with journalists, Trump emphasized that the document, which was previously called a plan, was in fact only a "map and concept" and not a full-fledged agreement. According to him, some of the proposed points have already been agreed upon "very successfully."
Asked whether the original version of the deal provided for too many territorial concessions to Ukraine, Trump said that the situation on the frontline was deteriorating and Moscow could seize the land by force:
"Everything is moving in the same direction. In a couple of months, this territory may be taken by Russia. So do you want to continue the war and lose tens of thousands more people?"
Trump added that negotiations are ongoing, including on the borders, which "cannot go through a highway or a city center." According to him, the process is complicated and painful, because "too many people are dying."
The US President also suggested that the war could drag on for years and emphasized that russia has much more human resources. Therefore, in his opinion, any agreement that Ukraine can conclude can be beneficial for both sides.
At the same time, Trump said that he no longer has a specific deadline for a peace deal, despite the fact that he had previously called November 27 the deadline.
Trump also said that he does not have a November 27 deadline to conclude a peace deal on the war in Ukraine.
