US Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll will meet with Chief of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov in Abu Dhabi to discuss the "peace plan" with the russian delegation. According to political analyst Viktor Taran, such a meeting emphasizes Budanov's key role for the American side in the Ukrainian negotiation process. He wrote about this on his Facebook page, analyzing the main components of the high level of trust in Washington to the head of Ukrainian intelligence.
In particular, the expert named four main factors why Budanov is particularly valued by American representatives among the entire Ukrainian delegation.
"Perhaps the most important thing. He is not associated with corruption, "mindichgates" (let me remind you that the tapes probably contain the voices of Yermak and Umerov) and that is why the Americans chose him to meet with their envoy Driscoll," Taran said.
An additional advantage of the Chief of the Defense Intelligence in the eyes of Western partners is Budanov's awareness of important intelligence data that the Americans may be interested in, as well as the effective work of the Defense Intelligence in terms of strikes on russian military and infrastructure facilities.
"Budanov is directly involved and shapes the 'Ukrainian economic sanctions' against russia - strikes on russian military and infrastructure facilities. And these strikes affect not only russia's power, but also global markets and macroeconomics. This is also one of the reasons why Americans meet with him. He has the whole picture of the diplomatic strikes and Ukraine's capabilities in this regard," the political analyst is convinced.
With regard to the exchange of prisoners, this component also plays an important role. According to Taran, Budanov heads the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and is in constant contact with all parties to this process, which can significantly speed up the process of returning our defenders home. After all, the UAE, where the negotiations are currently taking place, is considered one of the key and effective mediators in the exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and russia, the expert points out.
And although the final outcome of the negotiations is far from being finalized, Taran says that the presence of such a figure as Budanov in the Ukrainian delegation adds significant political weight and authority to it, and the chief of the Defense Intelligence himself is assigned a key role in the Ukrainian negotiating group
