Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard stated that her country does not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea or any other part of the territory of Ukraine. This is reported by The Guardian.
In Sweden's opinion, Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Regions remain part of Ukraine.
"Let me say it clearly: Sweden does not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea or any other part of the territory of Ukraine. We will not reward aggression," Stenergard said.
She emphasized that Ukraine has repeatedly demonstrated its readiness to agree to a full, unconditional ceasefire and negotiate a peaceful settlement - but russia has not done so.
"Our position remains unchanged: in order to achieve a just and lasting peace, borders cannot be changed by force. There can be no restrictions on the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will only encourage further aggression by russia. And there can be no restrictions on the sovereign right of the Ukrainian people to choose their own path, including the course for accession to the EU... But as long as russian aggression continues, Sweden has a clear 2-point plan: to strengthen Ukraine and weaken russia. You can count on our support," the minister added.
Recall that Sweden will build 100-150 JAS 39 Gripen fighters for Ukraine. Their supply will stretch over 10-15 years.
