The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was dissolved early in the US - eight months ahead of schedule.
This was reported by Reuters.
"There is no such department anymore," Scott Cooper, director of the Office of Personnel Management, told reporters.
According to him, there is no longer a need for the structure to reduce government spending.
Despite this, the administration of President Donald Trump has not publicly announced the liquidation of DOGE, even after Elon Musk's public dispute with Trump in May. Musk has since left Washington.
Since the summer of 2025, Trump and his team have hinted at the termination of the department's activities, although the presidential decree stated that DOGE should operate until July 2026.
What is DOGE?
DOGE is the US Department of Government Efficiency, created in January of this year. Its main goal is to reduce government spending, and the department was headed by billionaire Elon Musk.
In its first months, DOGE massively reduced federal agencies, slashed their budgets, and refocused its activities on President Donald Trump's priorities. One of the most high-profile initiatives was the closure of USAID, the world's largest donor, which, according to scientists, could kill more than 14 million people by 2030.
USAID programs have also provided assistance to Ukraine: since the start of the full-scale war, the agency has received USD 22.9 billion for support for displaced people and critical services.
DOGE representatives claim that they have managed to reduce costs by tens of billions of dollars, but outside experts cannot confirm this data due to the lack of detailed public reporting.
Elon Musk subsequently left the administration of US President Donald Trump after a turbulent campaign to improve efficiency, but ultimately failed to achieve the desired savings.
