US President Donald Trump said that next Thursday, when the United States celebrates Thanksgiving, would be "appropriate" for Ukraine to agree to a proposed peace deal to end the war. It was reported by The Washington Post and CNN on Friday, November 21.
Trump said he believes Thanksgiving is the right day for Ukraine to agree to the terms of the peace plan.
"I've had a lot of deadlines, but if things are working well, you tend to extend the deadlines. But Thursday is what we think is an appropriate time,” he said, adding that Ukraine was losing land and “will lose in a short period of time."
According to media reports, Ukraine is under "extraordinary pressure" to agree to a deal before Thanksgiving amid US threats to cut off aid. According to a knowledgeable source, while Washington's promise to cut off support for Ukraine is real, it is likely to be fulfilled in two weeks at the earliest. Another US official declined to comment on the deal, saying only: "Trump is working with both sides to end the war as soon as possible."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 21, russian dictator vladimir putin said that russia had received an American plan to end the war in Ukraine.
On November 21, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that the new peace plan, worked on by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, Ukraine and russia "will get more than they have to give."
