Mobile operator Kyivstar is going through one of the most difficult periods with electricity since the summer of 2024, with about 30% of the network without power. The company's CEO Oleksandr Komarov has stated this on Facebook.

"Today is a very difficult day. One of the hardest since the summer of 2024. At 9 a.m., more than 30 percent of the network is without power, almost evenly across the country. 5 regional technology centers are running on generators. In general, the grid operates on batteries and generators for a very large part of the day. Unfortunately, about 4% of the sites have lost their functionality," the statement said.

Komarov also reminded what users of fixed (home) Internet should know in order to improve the quality and stability of home Internet and, indirectly, mobile communications during power outages.

"Preparing for long blackouts, Kyivstar reserved 99% of the Home Internet network for up to 12 hours of autonomous operation before the beginning of autumn. For this purpose, we have installed more than 80,000 modern LiFePO4 batteries... Thus, when there is a power outage, the fixed network remains operational," says the company's CEO.

But in order to use the Internet as long as possible, subscribers should do their part - connect routers to a backup power supply. A power bank, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), or charging station is enough.

"As of mid-November, only 15-20% of Home Internet subscribers took care of the backup power for their routers. During the recent complete blackout in the Poltava Region, the customer reserve was only 2%. And then everything is interconnected: users switch to mobile Internet, the load on base stations increases, their battery life decreases, and the quality of mobile communication and data transfer speeds deteriorate. Kyivstar has done part of its work to provide backup solutions for the network. Now it is important for everyone to do their part, if possible, to keep the country connected," Komarov explained.

We remind you that today in Kyiv the electricity will be cut off for 18 hours.
