US President Donald Trump has signed a bill that obliges the Department of Justice to publish materials related to the case of the late Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sexual crimes
He reported this on Truth Social.
Trump said that he personally appealed to House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Republican Majority Leader John Thune to pass the document. According to him, the Department of Justice has already submitted almost 50,000 pages of materials to Congress.
At the same time, the president sharply criticized the previous administration of Joe Biden, which, according to him, "did not provide a single file or page on Democrat Epstein." Trump also accused the Democrats of using the Epstein files to divert attention from his government's successes.
"For years our Great Nation has had to endure RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA, UKRAINE, UKRAINE, UKRAINE, IMPEACHMENT HOAX #1, IMPEACHMENT HOAX #2, and many other Democrat created Witch Hunts and Scams,” Trump said, arguing that Democrats had tried to “distract from the GREAT JOB that Republicans, and the Trump Administration, are doing. This latest Hoax will backfire on the Democrats just as all of the rest have!" Trump wrote,
Trump added that Epstein was a "lifelong Democrat" and said he expected the "truth about these Democrats" to be revealed soon.
What is known about the Epstein case?
Jeffrey Epstein is a billionaire financier who has maintained ties to influential politicians, businessmen and celebrities in the United States and around the world over the years. He has been repeatedly suspected of sexual exploitation of minors, but he has long avoided criminal prosecution.
In July 2019, the case was reopened and Epstein was arrested in New York. He was charged with sexual abuse of minors and involvement in prostitution. The scandal also affected other public figures, including Prince Andrew, who temporarily suspended his duties
On August 10, 2019, Epstein was found dead in his cell. The official version was suicide, although the circumstances of his death raised doubts and gave rise to numerous conspiracy theories. What does Donald Trump have to do with the Epstein case?
Epstein's case has once again become political after lawmakers from both parties released new material - including emails in which Epstein mentions Donald Trump.
In response, Trump accused Democrats of trying to divert attention from the government's political problems and said he would ask the Justice Department and the FBI to investigate a number of Democrats' ties to Epstein - including Bill Clinton, major donor Reid Hoffman and former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers.
One of the documents stated, that almost a month before Donald Trump met with vladimir putin in Helsinki in 2018, Jeffrey Epstein tried to convey a message to the russian leadership: if you want to understand Trump, talk to me. This is evidenced by emails released by the US Congress on Wednesday.
Prior to that, American lawmakers stated that they had received a copy of a book with birthday cards from the notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Among them is a 2003 card with a drawing of a naked woman signed with the name of the current US President Donald Trump.
Later, Trump changed his position and called on Republicans in Congress to support the publication of all documents related to the case
