The US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, who met several times with russian dictator vladimir putin in the framework of peace talks, has no idea about the complexity of the conflict between Ukraine and the aggressor country russia.

This is discussed in the material of the American edition of Politico, which refers to representatives of the European diplomatic community.

The publication writes that US President Donald Trump decided to send his old friend Steve Witkoff, who has no training in international relations, to negotiate with putin, rather than any experienced diplomat. This decision shocked European officials.

One of the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity, that Brussels was not sure that Witkoff would be able to reliably and accurately transmit messages between Washington and moscow.

He added that this is partly why European leaders are so interested in communicating directly with Trump as often and as much as possible.

Politico notes that the situation with Trump's sending of Witkoff to moscow reflects a broader trend. The head of the White House is more likely to reach out to his supporters than to professionals. This has led to the fact that as of the end of October, 85 out of 195 US ambassadors were vacant. In addition, due to layoffs and delays in new appointments, some officials are forced to combine several positions at once. For example, Secretary of State Marco Rubio continues to serve as Trump's national security adviser and head of the National Archives.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 20, The Wall Street Journal wrote that Witkoff will leave the post of head of the negotiation group with russia. His place will be taken by Secretary of State Rubio.

We would like to remind you that after his meeting with Putin on August 6, Witkoff told Trump that russia was supposedly ready for significant concessions on Ukraine. It turned out that he incorrectly conveyed the position of the russian leadership to the US president.
