US President Donald Trump has changed his mind and called on Republicans in Congress to vote to release files related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. It was reported by Reuters on Monday, November 17.

Trump said he had nothing to hide in the Epstein case and called it a "smear campaign by the Democrats." According to him, he has instructed the Justice Department to investigate the ties of prominent Democrats to Epstein.

"House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide. And it’s time to move on from this Democrat Hoax perpetrated by Radical Left Lunatics in order to deflect from the Great Success of the Republican Party, including our recent Victory on the Democrat 'Shutdown'," the US president said.

Prior to that, House Speaker Mike Johnson said that in his opinion, the vote to release the Justice Department documents in the Epstein case should help put an end to the accusations that Trump had any connection to the abuse and trafficking of underage girls. At the same time, Republicans have a majority in the House of Representatives - 219 seats, while Democrats have 214.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 12, the US House of Representatives Oversight Committee released emails of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, in which he wrote that then-President Donald Trump "spent hours" at his home with one of his victims.

In July, US President Donald Trump sued the Wall Street Journal and its owners, including Rupert Murdoch, for USD 10 billion over a report that his name was on a 2003 birthday greeting to Jeffrey Epstein.
