The United States has approved the sale of fighter jets and aircraft parts to Taiwan. This is the first such deal since current US President Donald Trump took office.
According to Reuters, this is stated in a report on the website of the US Department of War.
The deal was worth USD 330 million. It included unnamed fighters and aircraft components.
"The proposed sale will improve the recipient's capability to meet current and future threats by maintaining the operational readiness of the recipient's fleet of F-16, C-130," the statement said.
Taiwanese authorities said that this is the first arms sale announced by the current US presidential administration. Official Taipei thanked Washington for continuing its policy of regular arms sales and support in strengthening its self-defense capabilities
Taiwan's Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the sale will take effect within a month.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in September this year, The Washington Post wrote that US President Donald Trump has suspended military aid to Taiwan for the sake of reaching an agreement with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
In March, the Taiwanese Defense Ministry published a report stating that China is preparing its army to invade the island in 2027.
Earlier, the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) said in its analytical report, that China has ordered from russia the training and equipment of an airborne battalion for an invasion of Taiwan.
Also, in China, replicas of Taiwanese government buildings have been built, where the Chinese military is practicing actions to seize them.
