Security Service counterintelligence detained an FSB agent who was adjusting enemy missile and drone strikes in the Zhytomyr and Khmelnytskyi Regions. This is reported in the SSU statement.
The main task of the attacker was to take and transfer to the enemy up-to-date photos of energy generating and heat supply enterprises in both regions. This would have allowed the russians to determine the technical condition, level of protection and location of unique equipment at these facilities.
According to the case file, the detained agent was a citizen of one of the Middle East countries, who lives in Zviahel, Zhytomyr Region.
He came to the attention of russian special services when he was looking for "easy money" on Telegram channels.
The SSU documented how, after being recruited, the foreigner drove his own car around the route and stopped at one of the support substations, a thermal power plant and energy facilities near the Khmelnytskyi NPP.
While near the potential "targets," the agent took pictures of their perimeters with security posts.
In addition, during reconnaissance missions, the offender also recorded the locations of checkpoints of the Defense Forces at the entrances to settlements.
SSU officers exposed the agent at the initial stage of his work for the occupiers and detained him "red-handed" when he was photographing one of the Ukrainian electrical substations.
During the searches, a smartphone with evidence of his work for the enemy was seized from the foreigner.
Based on the evidence collected, investigators from the Security Service informed him of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 1 of Art. 14, Part 2 of Art. 113 (preparation to commit sabotage under martial law);
- Part 2 of Art. 114-2 (unauthorized dissemination of information on the deployment of the Armed Forces or other military formations formed in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, committed under martial law).
The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Security Service's military counterintelligence detained another russian agent who was spying on combat aircraft of the Armed Forces in the west of Ukraine.
