During the court hearing to choose a measure of restraint for Energoatom's Security Director Dmytro Tenor, the power suddenly went out.
The moment was captured on a video broadcast from the courtroom.
At some point, the lights go out. The people in the frame are surprised that the court building is also de-energized during scheduled outages.
Despite the technical disruptions, prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office insisted on taking Tenor into custody or bailing him out on a sum of over UAH 45 million. The defense, in turn, asked the court to choose a softer measure of restraint or significantly reduce the amount of bail.
Tenor is one of the defendants in the so-called Mindich tapes case of large-scale corruption in the construction of protective structures for energy and defense.
As a result, the High Anti-Corruption Court imposed a preventive measure on the official of Energoatom in the form of detention for a period of 60 days.
As the Ukrainian News agency previously reported, on November 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) announced that they were conducting a large-scale operation to expose corruption in the energy sector.
Also, on November 10, NABU detectives searched the home of a businessman, co-owner of the Kvartal 95 studio Tymur Mindich, Herman Halushchenko and Energoatom.
MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak (Holos) said that he submitted a petition to the Verkhovna Rada to dismiss Herman Halushchenko from the post of Minister of Justice, as well as a resolution to dismiss Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk.
The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine confirmed that investigative actions were carried out with the participation of Herman Halushchenko within the framework of criminal proceedings, but declined to discuss details.
Meanwhile, Halushchenko said that lives on one ministerial salary while raising 4 children.
He also stated that he would defend himself in court.
