US Senate approves bill ending government shutdown

The US Senate has approved a bill needed to end the government shutdown. This decision is the first step towards the resumption of federal agencies. The document will then be considered by the House of Representatives and, if approved, sent to President Donald Trump for signature. This is reported by Reuters.

The bill was supported by 60 senators: almost all Republicans and 8 Democrats. There were 40 votes against. The bill approved by the Senate restores funding for federal agencies, which was suspended on October 1, guaranteeing the operation of the government until January 30, 2026. An important provision is that the agreement stops President Trump's campaign to reduce federal personnel, preventing any layoffs during this period.

To finally enter into force, the agreement must be approved by the House of Representatives, which is currently controlled by Republicans. Speaker Mike Johnson said the House intends to vote on the bill as early as Wednesday and immediately send it to the president for signature. Donald Trump himself commented positively on the agreement reached, calling the agreement to reopen the government "very good."

The bill continues funding without changing the country's course to increase the total national debt (which is approaching USD 38 trillion) and maintain a significant annual deficit of USD 1.8 trillion.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the United States of America has suspended arms sales to its North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies due to the shutdown, which has already become the longest in the country's history.

Last Tuesday, November 4, the US Senate reconvened to vote on the bill to finance the government, but once again failed to gain the necessary number of votes.
