Ukrainian farmers have nowhere to store vegetables, next season there should be more vegetable storages

Next year the situation with vegetable storages should improve, because the state plans to invest in their construction.

This was told to AgroPortal.ua by MP, member of the parliamentary Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy Dmytro Solomchuk, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"We do not have enough vegetable storages, so we hope that next year the government will launch this program, and our farmers or processors will be able to build vegetable storages. Thanks to proper storage, Ukrainians will receive a stable price in the spring for domestically produced products. In recent years, we have had to import imported products in the spring to fill the market, but they will definitely never be cheaper or better than ours. This is simply impossible," the MP emphasized.

According to Solomchuk, prices for borscht vegetables - onions, table beets, potatoes, carrots - have not just stabilized, but have decreased.

Farmers sell them at a very good wholesale price, since this year many have taken up vegetable growing, but there are no places for long-term storage of this product yet, and today they want to sell it quickly.

The politician noted that such an affordable price as in the last month and a half has not been seen for a long time.

The MP advised Ukrainians who have equipped places for storing vegetables to buy onions, beets, potatoes, carrots, and cabbage.

It is advisable to do this directly from farmers in their regions.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, there are farms in Ukraine where onions still remain in the field, in some places they have frozen, and therefore some producers are already plowing the fields with onions.

Problems with growing and storage technologies lead to the fact that a significant part of the harvest is lost every year.
