I hate AI, author of Breaking Bad criticizes technology

Showrunner of the series Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul Vince Gilligan has spoken out against the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in creativity. He stated this in a comment to Variety, talking about his new series Pluribus.

"I hate AI. It's the most expensive and energy-intensive plagiarism machine in the world. I think it's all complete nonsense - just a way for billionaires to become trillionaires. They're selling emptiness," Gilligan said.

He also warned that Silicon Valley's pursuit of the "singularity" could lead to the creation of "digital slaves" if AI really gets its own consciousness.

As in the case of the film Heretic, the credits of the new series Pluribus state: "created by humans." Gilligan emphasizes that the series is made entirely without the participation of artificial intelligence and has a "personal, human touch."

He added that he conceived and wrote Pluribus before artificial intelligence technologies and models like ChatGPT became popular. However, he does not mind if viewers see certain allusions in the show.

"I used to make mistakes when I explained to people what each scene meant. It was exhausting. Now I follow Michael Mann's advice: just tell a good story, and let the audience find the theme," Vince summed up.

As previously reported, the series Of Many (Pluribus) from the author of Breaking Bad launched on Apple TV the day before.
