The EU has started preparing a new, 20th package of sanctions against russia. Lithuanian Finance Minister Kristupas Vaitiekūnas and European Commissioner for Financial Services Maria Luís Albuquerque discussed new restrictive measures.
The portal of the German broadcaster DW reports this.
"We are pleased that at the end of October, another package of sanctions was agreed at the EU level, the 19th, but further pressure must be increased," the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Finance said.
He added that it is important to increase pressure, in particular, on the russian energy and financial sectors.
Vaitiekūnas emphasized the need for measures not only against russia, but also against Belarus against the backdrop of "regular hybrid attacks."
"The European Union should strengthen measures against Belarus, bringing them in line with those against Russia and introducing additional restrictions," he said.
Albuquerque said that the process of preparing new measures against Belarus is currently at an early stage.
"We are working with third countries, because there are some of them that facilitate the circumvention of sanctions," she said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the EU approved the 19th package of sanctions against russia on October 23, which includes a ban on imports of russian LNG from 2027, restrictions against 117 ships of the russian shadow fleet, as well as restrictions on the movement of russian diplomats in the territory of the EU.
