About 20,000 residents of the Sumy Region refused in writing to leave their homes, despite the risks. This was reported by the head of the Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
Since the forced evacuation of the population is prohibited by law, local authorities cannot take these people out of dangerous zones.
"We have about 20,000 written refusals to evacuate. The current legislation does not provide for a forced method of moving people. Therefore, of course, there are such cases. Indeed, people do not want to leave their homes," Hryhorov explained.
According to him, probably no person wants to leave their home, because it is not clear to them how to build a life in a new place.
"I would like to note that for people who are evacuated, places for resettlement are provided in the region, we constantly inform people about this. Humanitarian and other assistance is provided," added the head of the Regional Military Administration.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, 1,200 civilians continue to remain in Pokrovsk, Donetsk Region, where fierce fighting is currently taking place.
In the Kharkiv Region, the area of forced evacuation of families with children will be expanded to the Velykyi Burlutsk direction.
