Lukoil's oil depot and petrochemical plant catch fire in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of russia

After a nighttime drone attack in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, a fire broke out in an industrial area near Lukoil's oil depot and petrochemical plant. This is reported by Astra.

Residents of Kstovo reported nighttime explosions, followed by videos on social media showing a bright flash over the city and a fire that broke out after the strike.

Astra reports that, after analyzing the footage, it identified the location of the shooting as the village of Novolikeyevo. According to the results of the analysis, the fire occurred in the southeastern part of the industrial zone, where two oil enterprises are located nearby - SIBUR-Kstovo and Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez.

Rosaviatsia announced the closure of the local airport, as well as airports in Volgograd, Tambov, Penza, Saratov and Samara.

The SIBUR-Kstovo petrochemical plant, according to its official website, produces ethylene, propylene, benzene and a number of hydrocarbon fractions; at the same time, Ukrainian media claim that it produces components that can be used to make explosives.

According to media reports, the LUKOIL-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery is one of the leading refineries in russia, key to supplying the moscow oblast, which accounts for about 30% of the country's gasoline consumption. Part of the fuel was supplied to moscow by pipeline. The installed primary refining capacity is about 17 million tons per year; the company produces more than 50 types of products, including automotive, aviation and diesel fuels, petroleum bitumen, paraffin waxes, etc.
