US decides to launch air strikes on Venezuela - Miami Herald

The administration of US President Donald Trump has decided to launch strikes on military facilities in Venezuela. The strikes could be carried out at any time in the near future.

The American newspaper Miami Herald reported this, citing its own sources.

The unnamed interlocutors of the publication said that the strikes by the US army will be directed at military facilities used by the Venezuelan criminal organization "Los Soles" (Cartel de los Soles). The US claims that this chain is headed by the country's leader Nicolás Maduro, and is controlled by senior members of his regime.

The Miami Herald sources reported that the targets of the strikes, which could begin within a few days or even hours, are also aimed at destroying the cartel's hierarchy.

The publication notes that the interlocutors refused to answer whether Maduro himself is the target of the strikes, but emphasized that the Venezuelan leader's time is "running out."

"Maduro will soon find himself trapped and may soon find that he will not be able to escape the country, even if he decides to do so. What is even worse for him, there is now more than one general ready to capture and extradite him, fully aware that it is one thing to talk about death, and another to see it approaching," the publication quotes one of the sources as saying.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 23, Nicolás Maduro said that Venezuela has 5,000 anti-aircraft missiles located at key air defense positions.

And in August, Maduro announced the mobilization of a "militia" to protect Venezuela in the event of an invasion by the US army.
