Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said that peace between Ukraine and russia can be achieved only with the participation of an external mediator, and, in his opinion, only US President Donald Trump can fulfill this role.
Orban said this in an interview with the Italian edition of La Repubblica.
"We hope that someone from outside, who is not connected to either the Russians or the Ukrainians, will put pressure to reach an agreement and peace. I myself have already negotiated with both Russians and Ukrainians, and I see from my own experience that two parties negotiating alone will not achieve peace," the Hungarian prime minister said.
He emphasized that it is impossible to reach agreements without a "third player". "Unfortunately, the Europeans have withdrawn from the process, so only Trump remains, who is quite committed to the idea of peace," Orban added.
The politician also criticized the European Union's position on the war in Ukraine, saying that Brussels "failed to prevent the war." "If there had been Trump, it might not have happened. What Brussels is doing is demonstrating its ineffectiveness because it refuses to negotiate," the Hungarian prime minister emphasized.
Recall that earlier the media reported on the preparation of a possible meeting between Donald Trump and vladimir putin in Budapest, where they planned to discuss a peace agreement on the war in Ukraine. However, preparations for the summit have been suspended.
Meanwhile, Hungary wants to form an "anti-Ukrainian" alliance with Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
