On the morning of October 27, a large-scale blackout occurred on Sakhalin, resulting in several settlements on the island being left without electricity.
According to russian media, the center and south of the region were left without electricity - in particular, Dalnye, Poronaysk, Makarov, Uglegorsk, Kholmsk, Tomari and Korsakov. Water supply disruptions were also recorded in the areas without electricity.
Eyewitnesses said that shortly before the accident they saw a "bright flash" in the area of the CHPP-1, which local journalists described as a "light pulse".
Power engineers worked throughout the day to restore power, and the authorities later explained that the cause was a broken lightning rod on the power line between two key substations in the regional center. This caused the protection system to automatically activate and disconnect the island's power system.
Experts note that blackouts in russia are becoming more frequent due to electricity shortages - demand is growing, while the energy infrastructure is worn out.
According to the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, more than 70% of the equipment of russian thermal power plants has already reached the end of its service life, most of the plants have been operating for more than 30 years. This leads to network overload and frequent accidents.
The most vulnerable regions remain Kamchatka, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Magadan and Sakhalin regions, Chukotka and the North Caucasus, which are not connected to the unified energy system of the russian federation.
It is separately noted that the power outages are also affected by strikes on russian thermal power plants, which have recently been recorded in various regions of the country.
Previously, part of the controlled territory of the Donetsk Region was cut off as a result of shelling by the russian occupation army. The network writes that the reason for the power outage was the russian strike on Kramatorsk.
