The heating season in Kyiv is expected to be difficult: due to the latest attacks on the energy sector, the temperature in the city's apartments this year may not exceed +5-+10°C. This assessment was given in a comment by electronics and communications expert Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov.
He explained that the attacks are cyclical - "they attack, the authorities fix, they attack again" - and their goal is to complicate people's lives and undermine public peace. "The temperature in the apartments will be +5 +10 (depending on the weather). Attempts to heat with electricity will lead to overloading of networks and blackout schedules every few hours," the expert warned.
Beskrestnov added that the enemy is counting on destabilization: "They need people to force the authorities to accept their terms. To what extent will they achieve their goals? I don't know. I hope people will be wise enough to understand what is happening and who is to blame."
What he predicts will remain in the city:
- hunger is not expected;
- fuel will be available;
- water supply will probably be maintained;
- the city hall will work to provide hospitals, kindergartens and critical infrastructure;
- heating points will be organized;
- mobile communications and the Internet will mostly work.
The expert advised to unite with neighbors for joint purchases of generators and fuel, consider autonomous diesel heaters with mandatory exhaust outside and keep spare extension cords. On the other hand, he called the mass "relocation for the winter" "a bit idiotic", because many have nowhere to go, although the option with a dacha or relatives is a justified backup plan.
Beskrestnov assured: "Of course, we will survive, but it will be difficult," and noted that he deliberately refrained from public technical details so as not to give the enemy useful information.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 8, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced that the fixed price for natural gas for the population and budget institutions will remain unchanged until March 31, 2026.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that Kyiv will begin the heating season for social institutions on October 3. Regarding the start of the heating season in residential buildings, Klitschko noted that for this it is necessary to weigh all factors: rational use of energy carriers, the inexpediency of unnecessary heat costs by residents, as well as the situation in the energy system; not only current but also forecast temperature indicators should be taken into account in order to save both the money of city residents and energy resources.
