French Army Chief of Staff Pierre Schill said on Thursday, October 23, that his corps is ready to deploy forces in Ukraine in 2026 as part of security guarantees.
It was reported by the portal of the broadcaster BFMTV.
France is ready to intervene in the conflict between Ukraine and russia. A day after the top military officer confirmed that the French army should be "ready for a clash in three to four years" with russia, the army chief of staff discussed France's preparations for 2026 in the war that has been going on between moscow and Kyiv since 2022.
"We will be ready to deploy forces within the framework of security guarantees if it is necessary for the benefit of Ukraine," Pierre Schill said during a hearing before the National Assembly's defense committee.
The army Chief of Staff has repeatedly emphasized France's commitment to its allies in front of members of parliament.
"The year 2026 will be marked by coalitions," he said, referring, for example, to the Orion 26 exercise, which "will test our concepts of joint, inter-allied and even inter-agency use."
Pierre Schill assures that the army is ready to simultaneously manage "three levels of alert", including the level of potential deployment in Ukraine. Thus, he mentions in parallel the "national emergency level" with "7000 soldiers ready to deploy with an alert time of 12 hours to five days, in particular for national sovereign missions", and the "first NATO alert level" - ARF 2026, which will be "structural".
