US President Donald Trump said that at his upcoming meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, he will discuss the issue of ending the russian-Ukrainian war.
The White House leader said this during a conversation with representatives of the presidential pool of reporters on board Air Force One.
While speaking to the press, Trump was asked what kind of influence he would like China to exert on russia. In response, the US president hinted that he would like Beijing to influence moscow's position on Ukraine.
"Well, I would really like China to help us with Russia. We have imposed very heavy sanctions on Russia. I think these sanctions... they are very tough. They are very strong. But I would like China to help us. As you know, I have a good relationship with President Xi... we are going to meet. We are going to have a good meeting... I think we will make some good deals. One of the issues... - is the relationship between Russia and Ukraine," Trump said.
He added that 7,000 people die every week in this war, emphasizing that "we will definitely discuss it."
"He (Xi Jinping - ed.) also wants it to end," the US president said.
Trump was also asked if he was afraid that the recent US sanctions were too strong and would back putin into a corner.
"No, I don't think so. Let's see what happens. I think he wants the war to end," Trump replied.
