After participating in an event with Kim Jong Un on the destroyer Choe Hyon, about two dozen North Korean sailors went to doctors with severe abdominal pain, diarrhea and fever. The cause was not poisoning, but overeating fatty food, which the military was not used to.

According to a source in South Pyongan Province, a luxurious dinner of fried pork and chicken was prepared for sailors and officers who had been at sea for a long time - a gift from the Central Committee to "raise morale". The soldiers, who were accustomed to a poor diet of barley porridge, soy soup and salted fish, pounced on the dishes, convinced that such a feast would never happen again.
After the feast, most complained of bloating, stomach pain, and fever. Doctors initially suspected food poisoning, but later concluded that the sailors simply couldn't stomach it - due to excessive consumption of fatty foods.
The victims were given enzyme preparations and medications to prevent dehydration. The incident prompted the fleet leadership to discuss the problem of malnutrition among the military.
Residents of Pyongyang and Nampo, according to sources, reacted sadly - they say, everyone in the country is so hungry that one hearty meal can be dangerous to health.
As a reminder, a memorial will be built in North Korea dedicated to the soldiers of the DPRK army who were killed in foreign military operations, including the war against Ukraine.
