Germany calls for restrictions on entry of young Ukrainians after Kyiv lifts travel ban

A debate has erupted in Germany over the sharp increase in the number of young Ukrainians arriving after the easing of travel rules from Ukraine. After the travel ban for men aged 18-22 was lifted, the number of applications for protection in Germany has increased from hundreds to thousands per week.

This was reported by the German newspaper Bild.

The Bavarian authorities are reacting most sharply to this, demanding that Berlin and the EU intervene and ensure that Ukraine again restricts the departure of men of military age. Munich warns that instead of participating in the country's defense, able-bodied Ukrainians are leaving it, which also poses risks for Germany itself.

Bavarian politicians are proposing to introduce stricter control, reduce social benefits for men of military age, more often refuse protection, and create deportation centers.

At the same time, there are disputes in Berlin over the reform of the welfare system: it was planned to reduce payments to newly arrived Ukrainians from EUR 563 to EUR 441, but the decision has been blocked due to disagreements between departments. The CDU and CSU parties are also demanding a review of European rules that allow Ukrainians to freely reside in the EU.

Recall that the flow of Ukrainians to Germany increased 10 times after men aged 18-22 were allowed to leave.
