Onion prices risen in Ukraine

In Ukraine, since the beginning of this week, onion sales prices have been increasing on the domestic market of Ukraine.

This is stated in a report by the EastFruit project, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The report states that farmers report that part of the vegetable harvest, as before, remains in the fields, while their quality is gradually deteriorating.

Moreover, onions have begun to sprout in the fields, which will also negatively affect the further quality of the product.

Today, local producers are ready to sell onions on average 12% more expensive than at the end of last week – UAH 7-13 per kilogram.

Experts believe that the main reason for the increase in onion prices is the fact that many farms are forced to suspend onion harvesting due to adverse weather conditions and, accordingly, the supply of this product on the market has significantly decreased.

Analysts also report that farmers prefer to store most of the good quality onions, selling them in small batches for now.

It is noted that today onions on the Ukrainian market are on average 21% cheaper than in the same period last year.
