The aggressor country russia has probably resorted to a new tactic of attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Its goal may be an attempt to unbalance the energy system between the left-bank and right-bank parts of the country, which could lead to a long-term blackout.

Serhii Nahorniak, chairman of the subcommittee on energy saving and energy efficiency of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, said this in a comment to Telegraph.

According to him, in today's conditions, the left-bank part of Ukraine is deficient in terms of energy generation. The russians are well aware of this, so they are trying to destroy thermal power plants and hydroelectric power plants on the left bank.

Disabling the above-mentioned facilities will lead to a shortage of electricity in the regions on the left bank of Ukraine. At the same time, there will be an excess of electricity on the right bank, where nuclear power plants operate. Due to the damage, it will not be possible to transfer it to the regions located east of the Dnipro River.

Nahorniak added that he sees no risk of flooding due to strikes on hydroelectric power plants.

"The dams are quite strong and have withstood the blow for the fourth year in a row. Therefore, I do not see any risks here," the MP said.

In order to destroy such facilities, it is first necessary to establish control over them, bring a large amount of explosives and arrange an explosion.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, yesterday, October 22, from 4:00 p.m., hourly power outage schedules were introduced in some regions. Prior to this, emergency schedules were in effect in these regions.

The introduction of blackout schedules was a response to the consequences of a massive russian air attack, which they performed on energy facilities on the night of October 21-22.
