The delivery of the first batch of Swedish Gripen fighters of a new modification to Ukraine will probably take at least three years. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson at a joint press conference with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He explained the long waiting period by the fact that the process of deploying the production of the updated version of the Gripen fighters - the E-series - is only beginning in his country.
"Therefore, we are talking about three years in practice. This is when we will be able to start deliveries. And then - you will not be able to deliver all 150 aircraft in one batch. That is, this is a long-term process," Kristersson emphasized.
It is also noted that since the delivery of such a large number of aircraft (up to 150 units) is a long process, the shipment of the entire batch may take 10-15 years.
"I want to emphasize: this is not something that is done instantly. We are only demonstrating our readiness and desire - this is how all major processes begin," the Swedish Prime Minister added.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine expects to receive the first Swedish Gripen fighters in 2026.
Sweden will build 100-150 JAS 39 Gripen fighters for Ukraine. Their supply will stretch over 10-15 years.
Meanwhile, the Swedish Embassy posted a meme about aircraft for Ukraine. The subscribers supported it.
