Traffic at the Krakivets checkpoint on the border with Poland may slow down due to the launch of the new digital Entry/Exit System (EES). It was reported by the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service.
As of 6 p.m., October 20, 50 cars were waiting to leave Ukraine in front of the Krakivets checkpoint.
What is EES?
This is a centralized electronic system that records data on crossing the external borders of the Schengen area without the need to put stamps in passports.
During the first entry after the launch of the system, citizens will undergo extended registration, which includes:
- photography of the face;
- taking four fingerprints.
During subsequent border crossings, the check will be much faster, as the data will be automatically checked against the data already stored in the database. The system will record the date, time, and place of entry and exit.
"When planning trips to Poland, we advise you to take into account the possible increase in waiting time at the Krakivets checkpoint and choose less busy destinations if possible," the border guards added.
On October 12, the European Union began implementing a new biometric control system. It is expected that the border agencies of the participating countries will gradually put the system into operation during a six-month transition period.
