US President Donald Trump has said that he will not give Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, because, according to him, the US army needs them. This was reported in a broadcast of Trump's conversation with journalists at the White House.

"We need Tomahawks for the United States of America too. We have a lot of them but we need them. I mean, we can't deplete our country. You know, they're very vital. They're very powerful. They're very accurate. They're very good. But we need them too," he said

The US President also said that during the phone conversation, vladimir putin did not like the idea of transferring several thousand Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.

"I did actually say: 'Would you mind if I gave a couple of thousand Tomahawks to your opposition?' I did say that to him. I said it just that way. He didn't like the idea," Trump said.

As the Ukrainian News agency reported, earlier Trump said that he had spoken with putin and called the conversation "productive." He said the two sides agreed to a meeting of high-level US and russian advisers next week, which will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio along with other appointed participants.

Trump added that the presidents would later meet in person in Budapest. The American leader said that the conversation brought "great progress" and that he plans to discuss its details with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Budapest is ready to host a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and russian dictator vladimir putin.
