The duties of the Odesa City Mayor are assigned to the secretary of the Odesa City Council Ihor Koval.
This is stated in the message of the Odesa City Council, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"In accordance with Part Two of Article 42 of the Law of Ukraine "On Local Self-Government in Ukraine", the duties of the Odesa City Mayor from October 16, 2025 are assigned to the secretary of the Odesa City Council Ihor Koval," the message says.
70-year-old Koval has held the position of secretary of the Odesa City Council since December 2020.
In 2010-2020, he was the rector of the Odesa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 14, the Security Service of Ukraine reported that, according to the SSU, the citizenship of Ukraine was terminated for Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov, since he holds a valid passport of the aggressor country, russia.
On October 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree creating the Odesa City Military Administration and appointing the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, Serhii Lysak, as its head.
