The preliminary cost of rebuilding Gaza is estimated at around USD 70 billion. The work could take decades, and its speed will depend on the amount of funding available.

According to Deutsche Welle, Jaco Cilliers, Special Representative to the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program for the Palestinian Territories, stated this.

According to him, a rapid assessment conducted by the UN, the European Union and the World Bank showed that about USD 70 billion is needed to rebuild Gaza.

Reconstruction work needs to begin as soon as possible. To do this, it is first necessary to dismantle the ruins of buildings that were destroyed as a result of fighting and Israeli army strikes. It is likely that at least 55 million tons of construction waste will have to be removed from the enclave.

Cilliers added that, most likely, not the entire territory of the Gaza Strip will be restored.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 8, Israel and Hamas agreed on the first step of the plan for a ceasefire. It provides for the release of hostages and captured Hamas militants.

On March 19, the Israeli Defense Forces launched a limited ground operation in the Gaza Strip to force Hamas to release hostages.
