The aggressor country of russia will be forced to restrain oil refining volumes until at least mid-2026 due to attacks by Ukraine on russian oil refineries.
This was reported by Bloomberg with reference to a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
"We previously assumed that oil refining activity would normalize as the end of the year approaches, but now adhere to more cautious forecasts," the IEA report says.
IEA experts estimate that by June 2026, the level of russian oil refining will be slightly less than 5 million barrels per day. After that, it is expected to grow to 5.4 million barrels per day, but the forecast will be revised as new information becomes available.
It is emphasized that due to systematic attacks by Ukraine on russian refineries, the level of oil refining has decreased by 500,000 barrels per day.
Bloomberg writes that since the beginning of August, Ukraine has carried out 28 attacks on key russian refineries, with the intensity of the attacks gradually increasing. The consequences of the strikes have already been a ban on gasoline exports and fuel shortages in a number of regions of the russian federation.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, yesterday, October 13, the Foreign Intelligence Service (FIS) of Ukraine stated that by the end of the year russia could become 60% dependent on gasoline imports.
We will remind, also yesterday, Reuters reported, citing its own sources, that in September russia reduced its exports of oil products by sea by 17.1%.
Against the backdrop of the fuel crisis in russia and the ongoing attacks on Ukraine, russian dictator vladimir putin has expanded state subsidies for oil refining companies.
