Microsoft has officially ended support for the Windows 10 operating system, released in 2015. Starting today, users will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, and technical support. This was announced on the company's website.
Microsoft warned that, despite the fact that the system will continue to work, devices running Windows 10 will become more vulnerable to viruses and cyberattacks. The company recommends upgrading to Windows 11; a free upgrade is available for compatible PCs.
"At this stage, technical support, feature updates, and security updates will no longer be provided. If you have devices running Windows 10, we recommend that you upgrade them to Windows 11 - a more modern, secure, and high-performance computing experience," the company said in a statement.
For computers that do not meet the requirements for Windows 11, the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program is provided - it allows you to continue receiving security updates for another year. The option does not include technical support and feature updates.
As previously reported, in the summer of 2024, the share of Windows 11 reached 29.71% among Microsoft OS users.
