US President Donald Trump expressed surprise at the length of the meeting between his Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and russian dictator vladimir putin. He recalled asking Witkoff "what the hell were you talking about for five hours'?"
He said this during a speech in the Israeli Knesset, Sky News reports.
Thus, Trump praised his Special Envoy and, in particular, the chief negotiator in the Gaza negotiations, Steve Witkoff. The US President said that Witkoff is not only a good negotiator, but also "a wonderful person."
"Everybody loves him. They love him on this side. They love him on the other side," he says.
Trump told how he organized the meeting between Witkoff and russian leader vladimir putin, which lasted five hours.
"I said, "what the hell were you talking about for five hours'?' And he said, 'just a lot of interesting things,'" Trump recalled.
According to President Trump, "but that's a talent." He also praised his team, in particular, his son-in-law and negotiator Jared Kushner, and Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth also received praise.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Reuters, citing unnamed officials, reported that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, after another meeting with vladimir putin on August 6, reported to Donald Trump about allegedly "significant territorial concessions" from the Kremlin. This information quickly became the basis for declaring "historic progress" and preparing for the summit in Alaska. However, Witkoff misunderstood the russian dictator.
