The German Aviation Association has called for shooting down drones over airports. The Spiegel magazine reports this.
As you know, drones have repeatedly caused delays at airports in the European Union, including German ones. The German Aviation Association said that it has been aware of the problem "for ten years" and called on politicians to take action.
"In a threatening situation, it should be possible to shoot down drones," said Peter Gerber, president of the Bundesverband der Deutschen Fluggesellschaften (BDF).
He said it is urgent to clarify who is responsible in a threatening situation.
"I am annoyed that the urgency of the drone problem is only now being recognized. We have been pointing out this problem for ten years," Gerber said.
Gerber said that detecting and defending against drones are sovereign tasks of defense against hazards and terrorism, for which the state must pay.
"At civilian airports, federal police should have the authority to stop drones - and, if necessary, shoot them down. For airlines, the drone problem is quickly becoming costly. One hour of disruption always means millions in losses," he emphasized.
Asked about the change in ticket prices, Gerber said that they would definitely not become cheaper.
"Prices are likely to continue to rise as the government's accommodation costs also increase," he added.
