Ukraine will have to increase gas imports by 30% due to russian strikes.
Liga.net announced this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The report says that the previous plan for gas accumulation for the heating season has almost been fulfilled, but additional volumes will have to be purchased during the winter.
"Ukraine will have to increase gas imports by "about 30 percent" of the previous plan due to massive Russian strikes on gas production," Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Hrynchuk reminded that Ukraine has attracted USD 500 million in loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and USD 300 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to purchase gas.
Both loans were raised under the guarantees of the European Commission.
The Minister said that she had just discussed with the G7 ambassadors the possibility of expanding these loans, also under the guarantees of the European Commission.
And we are discussing with some countries the provision of [financing] on a grant basis to increase natural gas imports.
The head of the Ministry of Energy emphasized that the total amount of financing for gas imports is still unknown.
It will depend on the intensity of russian shelling, the level of damage to the gas transportation system and the oil and gas sector, as well as the speed of recovery.
"Ukraine is working separately with each partner to "understand who will be able to help us in what part" in the purchase of gas," Hrynchuk added.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commenting on russia's strikes on energy facilities, said that it is necessary to prepare for everything, it is difficult for him to say what will happen to electricity and Ukraine should be ready to import gas.
Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Serhii Koretskyi on October 1 stated that the Naftogaz group had fulfilled the government-approved plan for gas injection into underground storage facilities at the beginning of the heating season by 95-97%.
