A Rosgvardia serviceman burned down an Mi-8 multipurpose helicopter while cleaning up garbage on the territory of a military unit in the Rostov Oblast of the aggressor country russia. The incident occurred last fall.

The russian edition of Kommersant reported this with reference to its own sources.

The helicopter burned down at the airfield of the 685th Mixed Aviation Regiment (military unit 3686) in Novocherkassk, Rostov Oblast, on September 4, 2024. Rosgvardia officer Nikolai Novoselov ordered his subordinate to burn the garbage that was in a pit specially dug for this purpose.

Novoselov's subordinate followed the order and set fire to the garbage. The fire spread to the dry grass and then to the helicopter. The helicopter burned down completely.

"The fire from it spread to dry grass, and then to the helicopter, which contained fuel, rescue and parachute equipment, as well as pyrotechnics. All of this was destroyed by fire, and the damage caused to the aviation regiment amounted to RUB 574.2 million," the case file says.

Novoselov pleaded guilty. At the same time, the court decided not to punish him severely. The prosecution demanded to recover almost RUB 600 million from the officer. The claim was partially satisfied - the military man paid a fine of RUB 350,000, and RUB 5 million was also recovered from him.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 29, servicemen of the 59th Separate Assault Brigade of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a russian Mi-8 helicopter using an FPV drone.

As OSINT analysts later wrote, the downing of the russian helicopter by a drone occurred near the occupied village of Nadiivka, located southwest of Pokrovsk, Donetsk Region.
