It is inappropriate for Ukraine to receive Tomahawk cruise missiles, and it is unlikely that the administration of US President Donald Trump will make such a decision. Reuters reported this with reference to an American official and three other sources.
According to the sources, the long-range Tomahawk missiles are needed by the US Navy, so even Trump's desire to send them to Ukraine "may not be viable."
"A US official and sources familiar with Tomahawk missile training and supplies questioned the feasibility of providing the cruise missiles, which have a range of 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles). The official said the U.S. may look into allowing European allies to buy other long-range weapons and supply them to Ukraine, but Tomahawks were unlikely," the article says.
According to the official, the United States can supply Ukraine with other versions of missiles that hit targets at a shorter distance, the so-called "workhorses." At the same time, it is with the help of Tomahawk missiles that Ukraine could hit targets deep inside the territory of the aggressor country russia, such as military bases, logistics hubs, airfields and command centers, which are currently out of range.

Reuters writes that according to Pentagon budget documents, the US Navy has purchased 8,959 Tomahawk missiles at an average price of USD 1.3 million each. In 2026, the US plans to purchase 57 of these missiles. In recent years, their production has ranged from 55 to 90 per year.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 28, US Vice President J.D. Vance said, that the United States of America is considering the possibility of transferring Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, but the final decision remains with President Donald Trump.
On September 26, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked US President Donald Trump to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles.
