State debt reaches historic high for 10th month in a row

The total state (direct and guaranteed) debt of Ukraine in August increased by 3.5%, or USD 6.58 billion, to USD 192.71 billion compared to the previous month.

This is stated in the data of the Ministry of Finance, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The state and state-guaranteed debt at the end of August amounted to UAH 7,951.29 billion, or USD 192.71 billion, compared to UAH 7,773.87 billion, or USD 186.13 billion, a month earlier.

The total amount of direct state debt as of the reporting date amounted to UAH 7,657.17 billion (USD 185.58 billion) compared to UAH 7,477.52 billion (USD 179.03 billion) a month earlier.

At the same time, direct external debt increased from USD 134.39 billion to USD 140.01 billion during the month.

Direct domestic debt increased in hryvnia equivalent from UAH 1,864.57 billion to UAH 1,880.2 billion (in dollar equivalent - from USD 44.64 billion to USD 45.57 billion).

State-guaranteed debt at the end of the reporting month amounted to USD 294.12 billion, or USD 7.13 billion.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in 2024, Ukraine's total state (direct and guaranteed) debt increased by 14.27%, or USD 20.74 billion, to USD 166.06 billion.

In 2023, Ukraine's total public (direct and guaranteed) debt increased by 30.4%, or USD 33.87 billion, to a record USD 145.32 billion.

In 2022, total public debt increased by USD 13.39 billion, or 13.66%, to USD 111.34 billion.

In 2021, public debt increased by 8.52%, or USD 7.69 billion, to USD 97.95 billion.

In 2020, total public debt increased by 6.9%, from USD 84.4 billion to USD 90.3 billion.
