NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has supported US President Donald Trump's statement that NATO member states should "if so necessary" shoot down drones and aircraft of the aggressor country russia if they violate their airspace.
It was reported by Reuters on Thursday, September 25.
Rutte stressed that he supports such a step against Russian air targets in case of violation of the airspace of NATO member states.
"If so necessary. So I totally agree here with President Trump: if so necessary," Rutte said.
According to him, NATO militaries are trained to assess such threats and determine whether they can intercept and remove russian planes or drones from the territory of allied states or should take further other measures.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 23, US President Donald Trump said that NATO member states should shoot down planes of the aggressor country russia that violate their airspace.
At the same time, on September 23, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that NATO would not shoot down russian planes if they did not attack NATO members.
On September 25, the ambassador of the aggressor country russia to France, Alexei Meshkov, said that there would be a war if a NATO member state shot down a russian plane that violated its airspace.
